In
1965, Fulvio and Renata Marcucci purchased 13 hectares of land
near Tavernelle. To begin with the property was composed entirely
of grain crops and woods.
A
passion for agriculture and a strong belief in the potential of
the land and microclimate which was soon to be rewarded, formed
the basis of Fulvio and Renata's decision to invest their resources
and energy in the production of wine and oil. They transformed
the property, gradually
substituting the grain crops with specialized vineyards and olive
groves.
In the 1970s they planted the olive grove. 1971 witnessed the
completion of the first vineyard, known as "Vigna dei
Meli." The other two vineyards also use the same clone.
In 1974 the first San Carlo Brunello di Montalcino was produced
from the grapes harvested from Vigna dei Meli.
Four years later, in 1975, the second vineyard,
Vigna del Picchio was planted. In 2000 the youngest vineyard
was planted, Vigna della Sorgente, with the vine distribution.
The San Carlo estate is a family run winery that has so far witnessed
the dedication of three generations that, while supervising various
expansions and developments over the years, have never lost sight
of the traditions of this area. San Carlo continues to guarantee
the excellent quality and high value of its products. Grapes are
carefully selected and controlled throughout the entire growth
cycle thanks to rigorous and attentive work in the vineyards.
The same care goes into the wine-making, sales and the relationship
with clients and the final consumer.
In
1999 Fulvio and Renata's son, Giancarlo, became directly involved
in the management of the estate and in 2005 he was joined in this
enterprise by his daughter Gemma.
